The film to be directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra, stars Aamir Khan, with Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra playing their respective characters of Jai Dixit and Ali.
Music for the film will be composed by Pritam.
Dhoom 3 will go on floors by the end of this year and is slated for a Christmas release next year.
"Both producer Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya are keen to have a fresh face in the female lead," a YRF spokesperson said.
Dhoom with John Abraham and Dhoom 2 with Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai were directed by Sanjay Gadhvi.
While Bachchan played the policeman chasing the baddies, Chopra played his aide in both the films.
